Emma's FMP Sessions
As a part of creating our exhibition, as a class we attended sessions where we would discuss the runnings of our exhibition and how we would like to promote and advertise it to get people to come and see our work.
From this session we then seperated into groups covering advertising, sponsorship, zine and our top trump idea.
The group that I got placed into was the 'Top Trump group'. Our class suggested the idea that we should produce small cards like top trumps with information about us, our work and where we are progressing onto.
Our group struggled with this idea from the beginning. As a class we wanted to create interesting and infinitive designs. For this idea as a group we came up with a concertina design.in the middle would be a folded concertina booklet with two wooden laser cut panels along the side. This would have folded up neatly and be easy to hand around.
This idea quickly changed as we became aware of our timescale.
We then came up with a small booklet idea. We would have a laser cut circle ( in which would be the illustrations being produced by others in our class). Inside would be information about us and our work.
All the ideas that we were coming up with were interesting however we didn't feel that they would be professional and would look very handmade.
After a group discussion with our tutor, we decided that prehaps we didn't need another thing to hand out at the exhibition as we already had the zine, the poster and peoples individual business cards. But as we still wanted to utilise the illustrations that were produced by members of our class, we came up with the idea of creating a small plaque to go along side our work. On this plaque included the illustration, our name, name of project, a contact detail and the uni we are progressing onto.
As a group we did work well together. We struggled with coming up with ideas, to over come this we made sure we listened to everyone suggestions.
In the group my main role was organising. I made sure that we had to name of the font used for the zine (as we wanted to keep our design constant throughout). I also made sure to make sure the illustration team had completed the drawings and when they were done that they sent them to me.
We started off by discussing how we would like our exhibition to be advertised. We explored modern and intuitive ideas of advertising and came together with the research that we gathered. We came to the conclusion that we wanted to keep it simple. We were conscious that we had a small budget and that we didn't want to use it all on advertising.
In one session we were shown powerpoint aimed to help and inform our decisions:
