Emma's FMP Sessions

Image
As a part of creating our exhibition, as a class we attended sessions where we would discuss the runnings of our exhibition and how we would like to promote and advertise it to get people to come and see our work.  We started off by discussing how we would like our exhibition to be advertised. We explored modern and intuitive ideas of advertising and came together with the research that we gathered. We came to the conclusion that we wanted to keep it simple. We were conscious that we had a small budget and that we didn't want to use it all on advertising.  In one session we were shown powerpoint aimed to help and inform our decisions:   From this session we then seperated into groups covering advertising, sponsorship, zine and our top trump idea. The group that I got placed into was the 'Top Trump group'. Our class suggested the idea that we should produce small cards like top trumps with information about us, our work and where w...

Week By Week Log - Final Major Project

Week 1- Mainly this week, I’ve been focusing on generating ideas and coming to a conclusion of what I wish to focus on. Therefore I’ve been mind mapping, producing rubbings, collecting materials, visiting places for inspiration to help spark ideas such as the Fashion and Textile Museum in London and a variety of gardens to complete observational drawings.   The Fashion and Textile Museum featured work from Wallace Swell – who designed the interior textiles for transport in London. The designs were inspired by the environment which is London. The artists kept a sketchbook and completed observational studies from different places in London focusing on the shapes and colours. Using these studies the two created the designs in reflection to what they saw. In Barcelona I kept a very detailed travel journal of my time there. This has inspired me to look back through the book and perhaps use that trip as a starting point for my final project. So far I think that I mainly want to f...

'Muddy Hands' Mod Rock Sculpture

Image
For 'Muddy Hands' we were instructed to look bad on our previous work and build on our ideas and make small scale 3D structures inspired by shapes. We had to focus on the quality of the sculpture looking at the texture. Looking back at previous work from the 'Maquette' project, I decided upon a similar approach. I began by making small scale paper structures to help me understand/create the basic shape on my 3D design. From that I made a wire structure. I wanted to create a sculpture that was very fluid and included a lot of linear lines and negative space.  I then proceeded to cover the frame in mod rock. The qualities of mod rock mean that once dry, the texture is very powdery and rough. To try and eliminate the rough texture I layered up the medium to try and create a smooth structure which I thought would lend itself well to my fluid design. Overall, I was extremely happy with the outcome of my sculpture. I achieved the free flowing...
